Ciao Italian Kitchen says ciao for now.

The original Ciao Italian Kitchen at the Waterfront has closed.

“It was just the right decision at this point, bottom line,” says Guillermo Perez-Munoz, who opened the business in 2011. “It’s what it is.”

Perez-Munoz opened a second Ciao in the former Tommy’s Restaurant and Lounge space near 21st and Tyler in 2012 and then closed it in December.

He filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy to reorganize his businesses in October.

The largest creditor listed is the IRS with a claim for more than $200,000.

Perez-Munoz isn’t going into details about Ciao’s closing.

When the west-side Ciao closed, Perez-Munoz said he was disappointed that people say they want to support local businesses but then don’t. At the time, he said he found more support on the east side, where he seemed to enjoy success for a time.

Perez-Munoz would like to reopen here again.

“Hopefully.”
