Development along North Greenwich corridor gained momentum in 2014
Development is picking up steam along the Greenwich corridor.
New construction is happening all along the Greenwich corridor. Retail and restaurant sites are being built. Car dealerships and hotels are being added. Other developments, several of them focusing on sports and the outdoors, are in the planning stages.
That hasn’t always been the case, but development efforts along Greenwich — mainly north of 13th Street North — gained momentum in 2014.
In September, I detailed how the Greenwich corridor is ripe for development.
The Greenwich corridor specifically and northeast Wichita in general have become the hottest destinations for commercial development. So much so that the North Greenwich corridor has drawn comparisons to the surge of development that happened years ago at 21st Street North and Rock Road.
Some have described Greenwich as the “next retail corridor.”
Dawn Truman, general manager of the commercial division at J.P. Weigand & Sons Inc., says national brands are becoming increasingly interested in Greenwich because of the area’s growth potential and the success that part of town has had in recent years with other business additions.
“Retailers are looking to build on synergy,” Truman says.
This year, a host of notable additions were added to the Greenwich corridor, such as the Wichita Luxury Collection’s Audi dealership.
A combined Jaguar and Land Rover dealership is under construction on the Luxury Collection’s campus near 13th and Greenwich.
New Acura, BMW and Porsche dealerships are planned for 2015.
A new McDonald’s also was among the notable additions in 2014 to the Greenwich corridor.
Development of a 436-unit apartment complex near 29th Street North and Greenwich, north of Highway K-96 is progressing as are plans for Thunderbird Tactical’s move from Delano to a new facility at 29th and Greenwich.
GoodSports Enterprises, the firm behind a planned sports-centered development at K-96 and Greenwich, is gearing up to start construction on the project’s field house.
Expect the development momentum along the Greenwich corridor continue in 2015 — and beyond.
