26 May Landmark wins Project of the Year award for Waterfront
A new addition to one of Wichita’s prominent developments is nearly at capacity thanks to a flurry of leasing activity over the past year.
The Waterfront Plaza addition near the northwest corner of 13th Street North and Webb Road had only two remaining spaces as of mid-May.
“We couldn’t be more pleased with the way things have leased up,” says Brad Saville, president of Landmark Commercial Real Estate, the leasing agency for Waterfront Plaza.
The master plan for the nine-acre development, a westward expansion of the mixed-use Waterfront to the east of Webb and north of 13th, includes a pad site for a 3,500-square-foot restaurant in front of Whole Foods. Additional tenants are expected to be added to the strip center portion of Waterfront Plaza yet this year.
Lululemon Athletica, a high-end yoga business that features athletic wear and accessories, is one of them. The Canada-based company plans to open a 2,750-square-foot facility this fall next to Whole Foods.
Waterfront Plaza will have about 70,000 square feet of space once the out-parcel building is constructed. Saville anticipates completion within a year. Clark Investment Group and March Oil are the developers behind Waterfront Plaza.
The Law Co. is the contractor for the project. LK Architecture is the architect.
“This has been a prominent addition to the Waterfront,” saysStephen Clark II, vice president at Clark Investment Group. “We’re pleased with the product, market reception and tenant mix.”
Clark says securing Whole Foods as an anchor tenant helped jump-start Waterfront Plaza. He says CIG already owned the property but wasn’t going to proceed without an anchor tenant.
“It took getting Whole Foods or (a business) like that to build that center,” Clark says.
Whole Foods opened in September 2014, with other tenants coming online in succession after that.
Besides Whole Foods, Landmark also helped secure Orange Theory Fitness, Pure Barre, Ethan Allen, Pink Saloon, In the Bag Cleaners, Groves Liquor and Equity Bank as tenants in the development. Equity Bank constructed a free-standing building.
Those involved say Whole Foods has helped give the development a health and wellness feel, enhanced by the additions of Orange Theory, Pure Barre and Lululemon Athletica.
