22 Oct Former credit union building near Central and Hillside demolished Thursday
Empty for almost a year, the former credit union building behind the Chipotle at Central and Hillside was torn down Thursday.
Great Plains Federal Credit Union left behind its lease at 3100 E. Central Ave. at the beginning of 2021 and relocated to Central and Greenwich, the WBJ reported at the time. Then in March, new owners bought the property, but have so far declined to share future plans.
According to Sedgwick County land records, the property sold to Mountain Pass Investments LLC, which includes Landmark Commercial Real Estate’s Scott Harper and Brad Saville.
“Since we knew that the existing building did not fit in with any of our potential future plans for the site, we decided to go ahead and take it down and clean up the site as opposed to letting it slowly deteriorate while vacant,” Harper said in an email Thursday, adding that there are new announcements for the site.
Built in 1995, the one-story, brick building totaled almost 4,000 square feet, according to county records. Chipotle still owns the parking lot and driveway that’s immediately to the east of the site.
The property, about one-third of an acre, now becomes a prime spot for new commercial development at an intersection that now has several big restaurant brand names, including Starbucks, Jimmy John’s, Panera and Doc Green’s, with Wesley Medical Center as its anchor.
