A new Mexican restaurant is opening in the former Kobe Steak House of Japan space at 2330 N. Maize Road.

Alberto Lopez and a group of partners are opening Barroco Mexican Grill this spring.

The restaurant, which is named for a term used to describe a style of architecture, will have a full bar.

Don Piros of Landmark Commercial Real Estate handled the deal for the space.

Last year, the owners of Kobe merged their former Derby restaurant with their Kobe near 21st and Maize Road in new west-side space at 21st and Tyler where Playa Azul once was.

Lopez says Barroco Mexican Grill ideally will open in March, but a lot depends on licensing.
