Plans for East Kellogg Develop

Just last year, it was announced that there was only one bid in for the project and it came in way over budget.

The City of Wichita, KDOT, and the Turnpike Authority went back to the drawing board. They took another look at the traffic needs in the area and unveiled a new design.

A design that simplifies the interchange at Webb road.

“What that did was simplify the Webb road interchange at the KTA, that took away one of the bridges, one of the tunnels, helps on cost,” said engineer Gary Janzen.

The new plan would change the entrance to the turnpike from just west of Webb road to the K-96 interchange.

Officials say they looked at a traffic study of the area and say it makes more sense to make the move.

Now with a new design in hand, the progress can begin.

Construction on the work near Webb should begin in the fall with the work closer to K-96 starting next year.

The first phase of construction should start later this fall with the entire area from Webb to K-96 done by 2020.
