Yen Ching owners are back with a new restaurant concept

The owners of Yen Ching are back, and they’re opening a new restaurant in Wichita.

Tom and Cathay Chang, who closed their 30-year-old Yen Ching at 430 N. Rock Road in May 2014, are planning to open Tasty House at 2431 N. Greenwich. The restaurant, they say, will be a quick service, order-at-the-counter concept and will offer many types of Asian cuisine, including Chinese, Japanese Korean and Thai.

The space is a few doors down from Blue River Mexican Grill, across the parking lot from Cabela’s at Regency Lakes, 21st and Greenwich.

“We wanted to try a new concept,” Cathay Chang said.

The couple had hoped to have the restaurant open this month, but it will likely be April before it’s ready to go, they said.

After closing Yen Ching, the Changs spent their time traveling to visit family on the West Coast. They kept their house in Wichita and recently decided they were ready to give the restaurant business another try, but they wanted something smaller.

I asked the Changs if they planned to put sizzling rice soup, my favorite dish at Yen Ching, on the menu at Tasty House. They said no, but I’ve begged them to reconsider.

I’ll let you know what they decide – and when exactly they plan to open – as soon as I know.
