It was a project that brought a new lodging and meeting space option to northeast Wichita, and, say those behind the deal, it also brought a level of contemporary quality not seen before in the Air Capital.

Aloft Wichita Northeast opened in early 2017, marking a key milestone in the continued development of the business park near K-96 and Oliver by Great Plains Ventures Inc.

The 126-room, 70,000-square-foot hotel also includes 4,000 square feet of meeting space.

That, combined with modern interior design that includes concrete floors, an open lobby, LED lighting, bright colors and a slew of amenities like an art gallery, fitness center and swimming pool, all create a space intended to leave its guests and patrons impressed.

“It makes us seem more contemporary, more modern,” said Susayn Brandes, CEO of Great Plains Ventures Inc., soon after Aloft’s opening. “If you build something that is different, you have that wow factor.”

The hotel, owned by Lake Charles Lodging LLC, with Brandes and Marque Peerserving as principals, is part of the Aloft brand under the Marriott flag.

The Aloft concept is now found in 18 countries across four continents.

“The design is something like Wichita has never seen before,” says Jim Korroch, who leads the Landmark Hotel Advisors LLC of developer Landmark Commercial Real Estate. “You walk into it and it is an overwhelming breath of fresh air.”

Korroch says he expects the project to help drive further development in the area, as it now means more than 100 people a night who will be looking for nearby dining, retail and entertainment options.

But, he says, their stay at the five-story Aloft, will be a highlight no matter what else they may find during their stay.

“It is a true destination hotel,” he says.

And with companies like nearby Koch Industries Inc. already making extensive use of Aloft for corporate travelers and for meeting space, it’s a concept proving itself in the Wichita market and helping add to a growing section of town.

“I think we have several new hotel offerings out east, but this one really is unique,” says Landmark CEO Brad Saville.
