A change in routine for this expanding downtown Wichita business

Derek Davenport is having a soft opening for his expanded Urban Routine Wellness in the former FNL Denim space on the west side of Eaton Place, but the business is slightly different than he planned.

Davenport has dropped the fitness portion of the business and added a salon as he originally planned. He says he heard from stylists who “were super bummed that I wasn’t going to do hair because they wanted to join the team.”

In addition to having full salon services, Urban Routine Wellness has facials, waxing, body sculpting, spray tanning, eyelash extensions and tarot readings. There’s also a physician who does injections.

Davenport also has a coffee shop with coffee and specialized teas, and he plans to add supplements for the drinks as well.

Part of his decision to drop classes such as yoga and strength training is they would have had about 15 people in them at a time, which he says is difficult downtown.

“We kind of ran into a snag with parking.”

Davenport says he was “kind of rushed into the space a little bit sooner than expected,” so he’s still decorating and getting everything ready.

He says to look for a grand opening in March, when the business will be fully staffed and everything will be complete.

“We want it to just be a really awesome, awesome experience for the grand opening.”
