Laham plans 25-acre, mixed-use development in east Wichita

The last piece of a real estate puzzle has fallen into place on a new mixed-used development George Laham has planned for the northeast corner of 13th Street and Greenwich Road.

The 25-acre project in east Wichita will feature the same kind of entertainment, restaurant and hotel concepts that have sprung up in the nearby Plazzio on the southeast corner, another in Laham Development’s portfolio.

Amy Liebau, chief operating officer for Laham Development, shared the news Thursday with the WBJ. She says the company closed Jan. 9 on a 17-acre piece of land — the last piece of property that the group has been gradually collecting along 13th Street from Greenwich Road to K-96 since 2005.

Laham bought the 17-acre property from Dillon Real Estate, real estate records show. Brad Saville of Landmark Commercial Real Estate brokered the deal.

Liebau said the development project will be driven by market demand, meaning there’s no real timeline for construction as commercial agents from J.P. Weigand & Sons and Landmark partner to secure tenants.

“We will listen to the market,” Liebau said. “We’ve already had quite a bit of interest and are hoping to bring in some new uses and new concepts to Wichita.”

Laham also developed the northwest and southwest corners at 13th and Greenwich, which have several car dealerships and other retailers. And the Plazzio includes the widely popular Chicken N Pickle, The Alley Indoor Entertainment Center, Regal Warren East and a handful of restaurants and hotels.

Liebau says that corner has been successful mostly because of the access to K-96.

“You have the visibility and the access there so it’s a regional draw, not just a local draw,” she said. “We think that will carry over to this new development.”
