09 Mar Greenwich Place announces new stores, including a long-awaited east-side Marshalls
Greenwich Place at K-96 and Greenwich is growing by two more stores: Marshalls and Skechers.
Both stores rather unusually went to the west side of Wichita first and are now catching up with east-side sites.
“Both have been wanting to get out east for a long time,” says Greenwich Place developer Christian Ablah of Classic Real Estate.
He says he’s “very excited to finally get Marshalls. We have been talking to Marshalls for three years, ever since HomeGoods opened.”
Massachusetts-based TJX Cos. owns Marshalls and sister stores HomeGoods and T.J. Maxx.
HomeGoods opened in Greenwich Place in 2016 and on the west side in the same center as Lowe’s on North Maize Road a short time later.
T.J. Maxx has long been in Eastgate Plaza at Kellogg and Rock Road and in the Westgate shopping center at Kellogg and Dugan.
The west-side Marshalls opened at NewMarket Square at 21st and Maize Road in 2012. There’s been talk of an east-side Marshalls since that time.
Marshalls is similar to T.J. Maxx. Both are known for carrying designer clothing and homeware at discount prices.
Through an e-mail, a Marshalls spokeswoman would not confirm a second Wichita site.
“Generally speaking, it is our practice not to announce store openings until close to an intended opening date.”
Skechers, a California-based chain of casual and athletic shoes that’s second only to Nike in athletic shoe sales, opened in 2017 where Pier 1 Imports used to be at 4500 W. Kellogg.
No one with Skechers returned a call for comment.
“We’re equally as excited about getting Skechers,” Ablah says.
The stores will be just north of Dave & Buster’s within the center.
Marshalls will be 22,000 square feet, and Skechers will be 8,000 square feet. The buildings will be attached.
The stores will be open in mid-November, before the holidays.
“Can’t wait to get them open,” Ablah says. “Both retailers will bring a ton of traffic to Greenwich Place.”
He says there’s more news to come soon.
