Heavy equipment began moving dirt today at what will be Waterfront Plaza, a new retail center at the northwest corner of 13th and Webb that will be anchored by Whole Foods Market Inc.
It’s been almost a year since it was announced Whole Foods is coming to the site.
At the north end of Waterfront Plaza, Equity Bank intends to build a branch to replace the branch location it leases up the road at Webb and Central. The lease for that location expires at the end of 2014 and bank CEO Brad Elliott expects the new branch to open by the end of next year’s third quarter.
Ground was broken last week for another new bank, the Wichita headquarters office for Leawood-based CrossFirst Bank, across 13th from the Whole Foods site.
Whole Foods is expected to be open about September 2014. It will be like any Whole Foods in terms of look, feel and products, but carry a different name to avoid conflicting with the Whole Foods Association stores already in town.
No word yet on what that name will be.
